Both Ira Singhal and Monica More have showed their determination which surpasses all other obstacles if one decides to achieve something. Ira, the topper of 2014 UPSC exam and Monica More who passed with flying colours in HSC board exams, have both proved the fact that being differently abled does not take away either the zeal or their ability to succeed when they are empowered by education.
Ira Singhal cleared the UPSC in 2010 but was discredited by the authorities citing her inability to “push, pull and lift” as a reason to refuse her posting. But such issues did not bog her down. She moved the case to Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) and securing a win she was inducted in 2014. For Ira her disabilities are like challenges which she overcomes to become victorious.
Monica More, who passed the HSC boards with 63% also proved that education or acquiring knowledge is not limited by physical disabilities. After suffering the railway accident where she lost both her arms, Monica did not give up on her hope of pursuing higher education. Her friend helped Monica to write the exams as the artificial hands did not enable her to write fast. Today Monica’s parents are proud and are supportive for further studies.
These daughters of India show the will power one possesses when the determination to do something is strong. Once a person is focused and is ready to work towards ones goal nothing can stop his or her. Both of them stand as shining examples to all those to face challenges in life or in their path for achieving their aims. We learn to try hard and not give up whatever the situation may be.
