Every year we see reports regarding various school buses accidents and crimes related to this. A recent statistics suggested that nearly 41% children die in India for transportation accidents. School buses account for the majority of it. However, due to our busy lifestyles and working hours it becomes impossible for anybody to accompany our children to schools. Thus, school buses become necessary and can’t be avoided.
The question is what could be done to better this situation? What measures could be taken to increase the security? Several measures are available which does reduce a risk of accidents as well as prevent crimes. The first and foremost being proper identification check of the school bus drivers and the installation of GPS system along with CCTV cameras. A commendable step taken by the CBSE board is making the GPS mandatory for all school buses under the board.
Both parents and school authorities have the crucial role to play in this matter. Accompanying the child to the bus stop and see to their safe boarding on the bus can be looked after by the guardians. School authorities should appoint drivers only after a thorough check of their identity proof. Additional security guards must be appointed to check the number of children who boarded the bus and their safe landing along with extra checking if children are left in the buses.
To prevent accidents, the drivers should be given a notice about traffic rules and if possible seminars could be conducted to educate staff members. A little bit of care and attention can prevent the dangerous predicaments. Children, if possible should be made aware of proper conduct between them and the staff members in the school buses. All such measures if taken are sure to minimize any dangers regarding safe transportation in school buses.
