The renowned Homi Bhaba Institute in Mumbai has been given approval by the HRD ministry to start an off-campus centre at Bhubaneswar in the name of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) with prospective effect. On Wednesday, the Ministry finalized and gave their statement that it has issued a notification in this regard on the advice of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Homi Bhaba being one of the most acclaimed institutes in India, has taken this crucial and important step which will ensure that students get a better chance of getting admissions.
This move would allow for the conduct of academic course or programmes, subject to review of the off-campus centre by the UGC biennially for six years and subsequently after every five years subject to usual terms and conditions as prescribed by the UGC regulations, the statement said. The institute had submitted a proposal to the ministry of human resource development in 2010 for the establishment of an off-campus centre at Bhubaneswar in the name of NISER.
The proposal to start an off-campus was examined by the UGC with the help of an expert’s committee in terms of the provisions of UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2010 and its amendments. This off-campus centre would enable larger accommodation of students in this renowned institute with the provision of quality teaching for which the institute is known. With the starting of several off-campus projects this year, the education scenario in our country seems to have taken a step forward towards providing quality education.
