The Indian Civil Service, the most prestigious job with great respect and responsibilities. This is the only entry by which, the best brain of India will join the Indian system. Even though corporate jobs may get the highest salaries and amenities, the job of civil service will get more respect than all.
The Civil Service Examination is a nationwide competitive Examination for recruitment of various civil service jobs for the Govt of India. CSE is conducted by Union Public services commission of India.
This examination is conducted for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS) Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Indian Police Service (IPS).
The Process of Civil service Examination is based on the British Raj –era Imperial Civil Service. The CSE of India is considered to be one of the difficult and competitive examinations in the World.
Yearly more than 5 lakh candidates are applying for the examination but the success rate is 0.03% of the total applicants.
The CSE is conducted in three stages:-
- Stage –I: Preliminary Examination
- Stage- II: Main Examination
- Stage III: Personality Interview
The preliminary examination normally held in May/June every year. This is the first elimination test of the Examination. The result of the Preliminary test published in August Month.
The Main Examination is held on October/November every year and the result is published in the month of March.
The qualifying candidates will undergo through personal Interview which is held April/May Every year.

Eligibility for the Civil Service Examination
Candidates must be a citizen of India to apply for the CSE.
The prescribed age limit for the Civil Service Examination is minimum 21 years and Maximum 30 years as on 1st August of the year of Examination. The relaxation of the age limit is available for the SC/ST and OBC category candidate.
A candidate applying for the Civil Service Examination must have the following Educational qualifications.
- A Degree from recognized University ( State Govt, Central Gov and Deemed University )
- A degree from Distance Education or Correspondence course
- A degree from an Open University
Number of Attempt for the civil service Examination
There is s limit of attempt for the civil service Examination. And the candidates just applied but not appear the examination is considered an attempt for the examination.
- For General and OBC(Under creamy layer) category candidate can apply only 4 times
- For OBC category candidate, 7 times
- For SC/ST candidate there is no limit for the Attempt
