Should One Pursue their B-School in India or Abroad?

Doing an MBA is one of the most aspired career options for youths in our country. After graduation students mainly take an attempt to get into of the top B-Schools in India or some try and apply abroad for it. More than 3000 B-Schools exist in India to cater the demand for students applying for them, but only a handful provide quality education. This fact though disheartening is true.

After taking into account the placement opportunities provided by the particular B-Schools, their infrastructure, faculty, fee, student quality and location, Indian Institute of Management tops the list in our country. IIM Ahmedabad comes first in this list followed by Bangalore, Kolkata and Lucknow. People generally show apprehension regarding the newer IIMs but they have proved their worth and are doing quite well not only in terms of placements but also the kind of companies they provide jobs in.

Apart from the AAA category institutes mentioned above, the AA, A and BB categories provide quality education too in our country. For pursuing MBA abroad the factor that comes first is the monetary allowance. It seems lucrative as a degree from a foreign institution is highly marketable anywhere in the country and also outside India. But one crucial factor is that placements abroad are not centralized as they are in Indian B-Schools and the onus shifts on the individual and not the institution. One advantage of studying MBA abroad is that an individual has a better chance of getting in a desired institute than in India as the competition is tremendous for the AAA category.

One major disappointment pursuing ones B-School abroad is that at the end of course one might one get the kind of placement one desires even after spending a fortune for their studies. So if possible one should work hard and get into one of the top notch institutes in our country itself for a surer future as the quality of education imparted here is at par with foreign institutes. In either of the case, students should closely examine the opportunities that the institute would open up catering to their particular need.
