For Jadavpur University one can say that its history precedes its reputation. This University was founded as a witness and challenge to the British rule over education by offering education to the masses ‘on national lines and under national control’. Since then it has come a long way and has been recognized by UGC and has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with five star grade.
It has featured in the top hundred universities in Asia prepared by the Times Higher Education BRICS and Emerging Economics Rankings in the 47th position in 2014, sharing its place with IIT Madras. This centre for excellence has competed with IITs from long back and has never taken a back step in the field of research and development.
One may think it plausible as the University has garnered enough recognition for being one of the foremost sites for pursuing technical studies but even the Arts faculty has its fame in developing major research works. The Centre for Advanced Studies and School of Cultural Texts and Records have proven pioneers in pursuing research work in the field of Humanities. In addition to this the Blue Earth Workshop located here is among the foremost centres of learning techniques in workshop technology providing easy access for interested students.
Jadavpur University has recently acquired the erstwhile National Instruments Limited (CSIR), becoming the first Indian university to acquire such a research unit. Being a state government funded institution the academic cost per year is very low for students. What it demands and values is talent and hard work.
Unlike in a large number of states, there is no domicile quota in Jadavpur and admission procedure takes place through WBJEE. For pursuing post graduation the GATE rank is taken under consideration. Admission to Arts and Science faculties is by the means of individual examination for each of the departments. It has stood and will stand in the future years as a centre for nurturing excellence, providing each and every student a chance to aspire and succeed.
